William "Bashin' Bill" Barilko died on August 26, 1951. He had joined his dentist Henry Hudson on Hudsons aeroplane for a fishing trip to Seal River, Quebec. However, the plane and its passengers went missing. The bodies were recoverd on June 7, 1962, when the wreckage of the plane was found about 35 miles (56 km) off course.
