Kvartalnov was a talented left-winger who played a little more than a season with the Boston Bruins in the early 1990s. He came to North America in 1991 without an NHL contract and led the IHL with 60 goals and 118 points while playing for the San Diego Gulls. Kvartlanov was chosen 16th overall in 1992 by the Bruins then scored 30 goals for them as a rookie in 1992-93. He split the 1993-94 season between Bruins and their AHL affiliate in Providence. Kvartalnov was a soft, individualistic player who shied away from the physical game. Later, he found big money in Europe, which is where he played for another 13 seasons before retiring in 2007. He starred in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, and of course back home in Russia with several teams, most notably Kazan Ak-Bars.
He also represented Soviet Union and later Russia in three World championships, winning gold medal in 1989 and bronze medal in 1991.
Brother: Andrei Kvartalnov
Son: Nikita Kvartalnov

When they made him their top pick in last year’s draft, the Bruins predicted Kvartalnov would score 30 goals a season in the next decade, Boston Herald 1993
The feeling was, his defensive shortcomings outweighed his offensive skills, Heidi Holland 1993
